1 cup softened butter
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2 cups flour
1 pinch salt
Mix all of the above well, pat into 9-inch-by-13-inch pan ungreased. Bake at 350 for 18-20 minutes.
Beat 4 eggs slightly. Add 2 cups of sugar to this egg amalgamation [DK: their word, not mine!], along with 4 tablespoons of flour, 5 tablespoons of lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of grated lemon rind. Spread the resulting mixture upon the top of the previously baked conglomerate and bake again at 350 for 22-25 minutes. Then remove from the oven; sift a moderate portion of confectioners’ sugar on top. Cool. Cut. Do not eat but transport to the Spring Fling.
