With the holidays over and 2010 coming to a close (how is that possible?), I’ve been reflecting on the highs and lows of the past year. Although my goal with FoodFixe is to provide reliable recipes to make your time in the kitchen a success, the truth is I experience plenty of failures in the course of my cooking.
This year’s most noteworthy FoodFail was an attempt at homemade Maraschino cherries. The story about which is amusingly recounted by my friend Elaine below. This experience reminded me of something Shauna James Ahern, the Gluten-Free Girl, said during a session I attended at the BlogHer Food 2010 conference: You have to shed your fear of mistakes.
Personally, I’ve often learned more from my failures ... er, mistakes, which are really successes in their own odd way. For sure, the failures make the best stories! And once I’ve stopped laughing, I try again and learn some more. In case you're wondering, this year's most unexpected success was baking a gingerbread cake on the grill (picture below).
